One more... "Biloxi Trawlers." Catch 'em in our nets.
Good name, good colors
I like the Biloxi Amberjacks. These local sport fish are extremely strong fighters with great endurance. They are blue along the top with an amber stripe down each side.
Where do I get one of the hundreds of port jobs in Gulfport? I don't see any advertisements. And what are the salaries at the port and who pays them?
Was I wrong?
I thought President's Day was to combine acknowledgment of Presidents Washington and Lincoln whose birthdays are the 22nd and 12th respectively.
Under the proposed tax holiday for hunting related items -- to quote Jeff Smith, R-Columbus: "It covers everything but the lunch..." Why doesn't Mississippi give a tax holiday for food rather than guns? Many states exclude food from taxation permanently, because they're concerned about all their citizens rather than a languishing recreational niche.
Reflect Biloxi history
Biloxi holds a lot of great history and has been through a lot. Having the team's name represent the city's culture is a great idea. Let's get out of the '40s, '50s, and so on and move forward, all while having a name that stays true to the city of Biloxi. This is a team for current and future generations to enjoy and call theirs. Why must we always be associated with devastating hurricanes, cheap "bacon," and so on?
To the person wanting to name the new team "Mississippi Gulf Coast" somethings: Let's just look at what each city is funding for Biloxi's team -- nothing. It's Biloxi's team and should be named something to represent Biloxi well. Boy, the jealousy!
Schooners right choice
If they don't name the baseball team the Biloxi Schooners they are making a major mistake. Part of Biloxi's city logo is a schooner. The Seafood Museum actually has two functioning schooners; this is a huge marketing plus. Only the Mississippi Gulf Coast, primarily Biloxi, had the schooner shrimp boats. It would be a good tie-in across the board for advertising purposes and unique to this area. The governor may like Biloxi Blues, but he is not from here, he is from up state and the blues originated in the Delta, not here. Let them get their own baseball team. The name should be unique to Biloxi and the Coast, cool, easily identifiable and easy to market with a cool logo for cool T-shirts. The Biloxi Schooner is perfect for all of these things.
