BAY ST. LOUIS -- The Hancock Medical board of trustees signed a two-year management agreement for Ochsner Health System to manage Hancock Medical Center. The board, working with the Hancock County Board of Supervisors, announced the deal Wednesday.
J. Larry Ladner, president of the Hancock Medical board of trustees, said the agreement is a landmark one for the Hancock County hospital.
Hancock Medical and Oschner announced an interim management agreement in September. The pact was for 90 days, but Oschner has been managing the hospital since.
"In the past five months, management from the Ochsner Health System has proven that it is here to provide the same great care for patients in Mississippi that it is known for in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana," Ladner said. "We're excited to extend this agreement for two more years with a world-class health care organization."
For Ochsner Health System, Hancock Medical is the organization's first management operation in Mississippi.
"We've been here just a short while, but it's obvious to me and our Ochsner team, that Hancock Medical is an extremely important part of health care in Hancock County and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," said Hancock Medical CEO Polly Davenport, who is also CEO at Ochsner Medical Center-North Shore in Slidell.
Davenport said Ochsner is thankful for the opportunity to serve patients in Hancock County.
"As a system, Ochsner serves a number of patients across the Gulf South and this allows us the opportunity to continue providing compassionate and quality healthcare for them closer to home," said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Ochsner Health System.
"We look forward to a long and successful relationship."
