Lynda Favre was awarded the 2013 John Caranna Public Service Award for her outstanding volunteer service to the people of Harrison County, presented by the Harrison County TRIAD/SALT Council
After Hurricane Katrina, Favre coordinated job assignments for U.S. and Canadian volunteers and aided police officers.
She was instrumental in forming Shepherd of the Gulf Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides blankets, food, household items and other needed supplies to the homeless in the woods. She also assists the VA on homeless issues.
Through community participation and donations, Favre sponsors the annual picnic for the homeless, Thanksgiving in the Woods and Campers Christmas. In addition to helping to feed the homeless and find them a place to live, she works to feed the pets of the homeless.
Favre has been a Parent Partner for an organization providing information, education and resources for children with disabilities. She also is a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She has received several honors for her volunteer services, including The Presidents Volunteer Service Award 2012, Caring Woman Honoree 2011, Red Cross Volunteer 2010, Toys for Tots Award 2012.
