Huntington Ingalls Industries announced two engineers from Ingalls in Pascagoula were recognized for their achievements in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math during the 28th Black Engineer of the Year Award STEM Global Competitiveness Conference. Brandon Horton, electrical engineer, has earned a reputation as an expert in the cable-routing program. His innovations have resulted in significant cost savings and improvements in quality and safety. Roy Townsend Sr., industrial engineer for the Zumwalt-class destroyer program and craft industrial engineer for the amphibious transport dock program, is the liaison between his production management and support teams and has been a key player in helping to develop and review the annual operation plans and budgets with the DDG 1000 program and craft management team.
The 2014 Jury of Fellows from the American Institute of Architects named Allison Anderson to its College of Fellows, an honor awarded to members who have made significant contributions to the profession. She is the only architect recognized from Mississippi and among a class of 139 new fellows.
Brian Whitman of Waveland has joined Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush's Gulf Coast office. Whitman's practice areas include litigation, third-party personal injury defense, commercial ligation and transactions and workers' compensation. He received his law degree from the University of Mississippi and his bachelor's from the University of Southern Mississippi Honors College.
Mark Schloegel, an account executive at Stewart Sneed Hewes Insurance in Gulfport, is the new chairman of Partners for Stennis. Other officers elected for the year are Nan Hardin with Lockheed Martin, vice chair; John Smith with the city of Slidell, treasurer; and Tish Williams, director of the Hancock Chamber of Commerce, will continue as the board's secretary and executive director. Randy Holland retired as treasurer and will remain a board member. South Mississippi Regional Center honored Ida Lewis, Juan Harvey and JeanMarie Johnson as the 2013 Winter Employees of the Quarter. Lewis works as an alternate supervisor at Golden Magnolia Enterprises in Wiggins. Harvey is a teacher's aide and Johnson is a speech language pathologist; both work at Long Beach campus.
Keith Purvis, a licensed professional engineer, has been promoted to vice president of transportation of Neel-Schaffer. Purvis joined Neel-Schaffer in 2011. His work includes projects at the State Port at Gulfport, the state Ports Study and more. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University.
IP Casino Resort recognized December Team Members of the Month. Tony Siemiontkowski, a table games dealer and IP employee for nine years, was named Front of the House winner. Karen Bolton, an A/P clerk and IP employee since 2008, was named Back of the House winner. Caroline Fountain was named Supervisor of the Quarter. Fountain is a player services supervisor and joined the company in 2012. Winners received a day off with pay, gift certificate, show tickets, VIP parking and a jacket.
