Santa Maria cleanup is expected
BILOXI -- Architectural specifications are complete for the interior demolition of the old Santa Maria Del Mar building on U.S. 90 in East Biloxi and a contract should be awarded shortly, Community Development Director Jerry Creel said Friday.
Grand Biloxi Casino started $1.6 million in improvements and site work began at Handy Lock Storage facility at Popp's Ferry and Iron Horse.
On Wednesday, the city's Development Review Committee will look at plans for the White House Hotel, Biloxi's French Quarter Centre at 2428 Beach Boulevard, on the site of the former Mardi Gras Lounge, and Snapper's Ice Cream Shop at 1699 Beach Boulevard.

Universal hiring 3,500for expansions
Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Universal Orlando announced Friday the resort plans to add nearly 3,500 jobs this year, driven by a wave of expansion that includes a new hotel and a second Harry Potter-themed land.

HAMPSTEAD, Md. -- Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. is buying the parent company of Eddie Bauer in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $825 million that will help strengthen its men's wear business and diversify its offerings. The deal comes as Jos. A. Bank is being pursued by rival Men's Wearhouse Inc.
Eddie Bauer sells men's and women's clothing and accessories. The two brands will run independently of each other after the transaction is complete.
Cold weather causesfactory output to drop
WASHINGTON -- Harsh winter weather led to a steep drop in U.S. factory output in January. Manufacturers made fewer cars and trucks, appliances, furniture and carpeting, as the recent cold spell ended five straight months of increased production
The Federal Reserve said factory production plunged 0.8 percent in January, reversing gains of 0.3 percent in both December and November. Automakers lost days of production because of snowstorms, as their production plummeted 5.1 percent, the report said. Factory output rose a modest 1.3 percent over the past 12 months.
