Our Lady Academy soccer standout Lyndsey Lee signed a scholarship with Southern Miss this week. Lee was a member of last year's Sun Herald's All-South Mississippi soccer team.
"Lyndsey is player that I've known for several years in our local area," Southern Miss coach Mohammed El-Zare said. "Beside her soccer and athletic talent, Lyndsey is an outstanding competitor with mental toughness that will inspire everyone she is around. Her energy is contagious."
Hurricane alert: The West Harrison High School boys basketball team marked a milestone in school history Tuesday night, gaining their 100th victory when they topped St. Martin.
The Hurricanes are 100-35 in their first fives seasons on the hardwood, and are 32-5 in district play.
Doug Bazzell has coached the Hurricanes since their inception, and Gary Blaize has been his assistant coach the whole time.
This year's team has four seniors: Maurice Stephens, Julius Buckhalter, Deshawn Jones and Deonate Mikell. The Hurricanes will host the Division 7-5A Tournament, starting on Tuesday.
Gibson has four offers: St. Stanislaus junior offensive lineman Ryan Gibson has four Division I scholarship offers: Air Force, Marshall, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Gibson figures to land a few more offers between now and National Signing Day next February. Gibson made the Sun Herald's All-South Mississippi football team, as well as All Region 8-4A and Class 4A all-state honors.
South state sites: Gulfport and West Harrison are the alternate sites for the 6A Boys South state and 5A Girls South State semifinals on Feb. 28 and March 1, respectively. The Admirals will host if Meridian falls. Natchez is the top site for Girls 5A South state.
Renewing the rivalry: Biloxi visits Gulfport tonight in boys and girls basketball play as both teams close out their regular season. The girls varsity game will start at approximately 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Meet the Irish: The annual "Meet the Irish" event sponsored by the St. Patrick Baseball team is scheduled for Saturday at the St. Patrick Baseball Complex. Junior High play begins at 11 a.m. with the varsity set to begin at 1 p.m, For more details, 263-1290.
