MGCCC could have interesting QB battle

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is expected to have a interesting quarterback battle in the fall.

Auburn verbal commitment Jason Smith will battle incoming freshmen Gulfport's Thad Miller and Tyler Allen of St. Stanislaus for the right to start.

Smith, an Auburn signee,  redshirted with the Bulldogs last year after he failed to qualify coming out of McGill-Toolen High School.

The 6-foot-1 Smith will re-sign with Auburn in December, the mid-year signing period for Junior College players.

"It's a great feeling," Smith told AuburnSports.com. "I just have to take everything slowly. I know where my home is and make sure I do things right this time. It's been a grind, but it has made me a man. I'm on my own and learning responsibilities. It's helped me in the long run."

Gulf Coast CC coach Chad Huff told the Sun Herald last week he's excited about the addition of both Miller and Allen to the Bulldogs' roster.
