Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College freshman cornerback Tony Bridges committed to play football for Auburn University, MGCCC head football coach Chad Huff announced Monday.
Bridges is originally from Hattiesburg. He was named to the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star football team as a senior in high school and was first team All-State.
Auburn recently signed MGCCC wide receiver Dhaquille Williams of Laplace, La., and MGCCC defensive back Derick Moncrief of Prattville, Ala.
"Tony is a tremendous athlete,'' Huff said. "He has great size for a cornerback at 6-foot-2. He has great ball skills and he works at his craft
"He is a great student athlete and makes good grades.''
Huff pointed out that Gulf Coast has received the Hallbrook Award for the community college with the highest percentage of student graduates.
Huff also pointed out that Bridges benefited this past season from covering Williams, an All-American junior college receiver, every day in practice.
"He can run and cover,'' Huff said. "He knows he needs to continue to get better and he comes to work every day.''
Gulf Coast will begin spring football practice on March 30.
