Southern Miss hires Auburn assistant as offensive coordinator

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on January 29, 2014

Southern Miss has hired Auburn assistant Chip Lindsey as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, USM head coach Todd Monken confirmed Wednesday.

Lindsey worked as an offensive analyst on the Auburn staff this past season in an off-the-field capacity. He previously worked as head coach at Spain Park High School in Hoover, Ala., where he coached current Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens.

Lindsey replaces Marcus Arroyo, who is now quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lindsey is considered somewhat of a spread offense guru and Mullens threw for 3,649 yards and 40 touchdowns in his offense in 2012.

He does have experience at the college level, working as the quarterbacks at Troy in 2010.

Prior to joining Troy, he had a successful 10-year stint on the high school level in Georgia and Alabama.
