Alabama lands Marlon Humphrey

Alabama has received a verbal committment from Hoover cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

Humphrey chose the Crimson Tide and announced on his Twitter account.  While many expected Humphrey to become an Alabama verbal, Mississippi State and Florida State were in his final three.

The prep All-American is considered the nation's No. 1 cornerback prospect by Rivals.com.

"To me it was very close, but also at the same time I am not going to press him about the recruiting process," Hoover coach Josh Niblett told Tidesports.com. "He knew I was here as a resource to help him and his family through this whole deal.  Marlon handled it very well.

"He felt most comfortable with Alabama. This was the best decision for him. There is no doubt it was close. He is not one who will string you along. He is very in tune with what will make him successful not just long term, but in the near future."

His father, Bobby Humphrey, was a running back at Alabama in the late 1980s before playing five NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins.

With enrollee and cornerback Tony Brown, Alabama will likely have the nation's top-ranked signing class next week. National Signing Day is Feb. 5.
