Southern Miss needed to bolster its depth at running back headed into the 2014 season, and it appeared to do so Monday night with a pair of key verbal commitments.

According to GoldenEaglePride.com, North Cobb (Ga.) running back J'Vonte Herrod has said that he plans to attend Southern Miss. He is rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com.

The other running back indicating he plans to play football at Southern Miss is Ito Smith of McGill Toolen in Mobile, Ala. He is rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com.

Herrod, who stands 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, also has scholarship offers from South Florida, Minnesota, Marshall, Middle Tennessee and Utah State.

The 5-10, 180-pound, Smith's other offers are from Arkansas State, Duke, Georgia Tech, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.
