USM basketball recognized by voters in both polls

Posted on January 27, 2014

The Southern Miss men's basketball team received votes in both major polls on Monday for the first time this season.

Even though they have a record of 18-3 and 5-1 in Conference USA, the Golden Eagles still have a lot of work to do to break into the top 25.

USM received six points in the USA Today Coaches Poll to come in at No. 31 overall.

Southern Miss received a lone point in the AP poll, marking the first time it's been recognized by the AP this season.

USM's next contest takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Tulane.

Southern Miss beat Old Dominion and East Carolina last week to solidify its position as a potential NCAA Tournament squad.
