Former USM, OS star Brown joins Voodoo

Former Southern Miss and Ocean Springs star DeAndre Brown has been signed by the New Orleans Voodoo of the Arena Football League, the team announced Thursday.

Brown joins the Voodoo preseason roster after making the team in an open tryout.

Brown started his USM career as one of the most highly-touted prospects in the program's history. He had a big freshman season with 67 catches for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2008.

He broke his leg in the 2008 New Orleans Bowl and never quite regained the impressive form he showed in his first year.

Brown was signed as a rookie free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles after his junior season at USM, but didn't make the opening day roster.

He is second in career touchdown receptions at Southern Miss with 24.

This won't be Brown's first experience in arena football. He previously played for the Knoxville Knighthawks of the Professional Indoor Football League.
