Valley announces Comegy as football coach

Mississippi Valley State announced Rick Comegy Tuesday as its new football coach.

Comegy arrives at MVSU after an eight-year stint as head coach at SWAC rival Jackson State, where he led the Tigers to the SWAC championship game in 2013. At JSU, he amassed a 48-31 record and led JSU to a conference championship in 2007 in just his second year at the helm.

Comegy has spent more than three decades as a coach.

“It’s not just about winning on the football field, but in the classroom,” Comegy said in a press release. “I know a lot of people just say that but if you’re not winning in the classroom then you’re going to have a hard time on the field.”

Mississippi Valley went 2-9 last season under former coach Karl Morgan.
