MOSS POINT – Long-time assistant Deadrick Bogard has taken over as the interim head boys basketball coach at Moss Point High School, Moss Point schools superintendent Maggie Griffin said Tuesday night following the school board meeting.

Head coach Micoe Cotton has not coached the team for the last seven games, an absence that has not been explained by Moss Point administration.

Griffin was asked Tuesday if Cotton is still the school's basketball coach.

“That is a personnel matter and we can't discuss that at this time,” Griffin answered. “There is no comment.”

When school board attorney Henry P. Pate was asked the same question, he said “You'd have to ask him.”

Cotton had not returned a call requesting his comment at the time of this report.

The school's position during his absence as head coach has been that he is “dealing with personal matters.”

Griffin said he is still an employee of the district when asked if he is was still teaching

Moss Point beat Vancleave, 87-38, Tuesday night with Bogard and and assistant Melvin Booker coaching the team from the bench.
