Southern Miss wins C-USA opener

Southern Miss topped North Texas, 74-64, Thursday night in Denton, Texas, to take the Conference USA opener for both schools.

Michael Craig had a big game for the Golden Eagles with 21 points and seven rebounds while Daveon Boardinham hit for 11 points and six rebounds.

Southern Miss improves to 14-2 and 1-0 in C-USA and prepares to travel to Tulsa for a noon game on Sunday. The Tulsa contest will be televised by Fox Sports 1.

Deonte Houston was good off the bench for USM contributing 10 points and Jeremiah Easton led the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds.

Jordan Williams scored 17 points to lead North Texas, which drops to 9-6. The Mean Green had a four-game winning streak headed into Thursday's game.
