USM dismisses running back from team

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on January 2, 2014

Southern Miss sophomore Tyre Bracken has been dismissed from the football team, head coach Todd Monken confirmed via text message Thursday afternoon.

Monken didn't give a reason for his dismissal.

Bracken was USM's fourth-leading rusher this past season, running 47 times for 144 yards and no touchdowns.

While he didn't have big success as a runner, Bracken became a key part of the USM passing game with 31 receptions for 301 yards.

Bracken was USM's leading receiver with seven catches for 63 yards in the season-ending 62-27 victory over UAB.

Rising junior Jalen Richard and rising sophomore George Payne are the only two running backs set to return for USM in the 2014 season.
