USM's Mullens receives C-USA weekly honor

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on December 2, 2013

Southern Miss freshman quarterback Nick Mullens has been named the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading his team to a 62-27 victory over UAB on Saturday.

Mullens completed 24-of-39 passes for 370 yards, five touchdowns and one interception as USM ended the nation's longest losing streak at 23 games. He also had a rushing touchdown for the Golden Eagles (1-11).

The game at Legion Field in Birmingham served as somewhat of a homecoming for the Hoover, Ala., native, who tied a school record with the five passing touchdowns.

North Texas running back Brandin Byrd is the other C-USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week after rushing 26 times for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-10 win over Tulsa.
