Southern Miss earns big road win at DePaul

The Southern Miss basketball team earned a big non-conference victory, 75-68, over DePaul of the Big East in Chicago Wednesday night.

It was a shared effort for the Golden Eagles (2-0) with seven players scoring six points or more.

Aaron Brown led USM with 13 points (all in the second half) while Michael Craig added 12 points and eight rebounds and Daveon Boardingham contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Chip Armelin played well off the bench with 10 points and six rebounds.

Wednesday night's game was crucial to USM's chances of building a strong postseason resumé.

DePaul is unlikely to finish in the top half of the Big East, but it's proof that USM can win over a team from one of the power conferences. Games against Louisville, Western Kentucky, Drexel and Rhode Island stand out as other non-conference games that could help bolster USM's RPI standing.

Next up for Southern Miss is a road game at North Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Brandon Young had 23 points to lead DePaul, which dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
