— Redshirt senior Allan Bridgford will start at quarterback for Southern Miss on Saturday at East Carolina, USM coach Todd Monken said Monday in his weekly press conference.

Southern Miss is 0-5 headed into Saturday's game thanks to 19 turnovers, and Bridgford has had a difficult time holding onto the ball.

He has completed 110 of 196 passes for five touchdowns and 11 interceptions while starting all five games. Bridgford also lost a crucial fumble just before the half in the 24-23 loss to Florida International last time out.

Freshman backup Nick Mullens has seen limited playing time in two games this season.
