The St. Louis Cardinals have claimed former Pascagoula baseball star Joey Butler off waivers.

Butler was picked up by the Cardinals after the Texas Rangers recently designated Butler for assignment back to the minor leagues.

Butler, an outfielder, had a .333 batting average in limited opportunities after he made his Major League debut with the Rangers this season.

Butler also played at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of New Orleans.
