Pascagoula to honor two fallen football players

Pascagoula High School will honor its two fallen student-athletes in Friday's 7 p.m. home opener against Greene County at War Memorial Stadium.

Football players Brandon Rich and Caleb Sweeten died May 5 in a water-skiing accident on the Pascagoula River.

In honor of the two players' jersey numbers, the 8 and 39 yard lines will be painted black on the field. Rich wore No. 8 as a star defensive back while Sweeten was No. 39 as a sophomore linebacker.

There will also be a moment of silence prior to the game.

Rich had signed to play football at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College this season while Sweeten was expected to be a starter at linebacker for Pascagoula this year.
