2 USM defensive linemen no longer with team

— Defensive linemen Anthony Wilson and Roderick Henderson are not expected to be with the Southern Miss football team this season, coach Todd Monken said Friday.

Although USM is in need of depth on the defensive line, neither of two were projected as key players this season.

“They chose not to do what was necessary to be a part of our program,” Monken said. “That's the way it is. They make those decisions for themselves. I want players that want to be here and work hard. It has nothing to do with ability and talent. It has to do with want to and grit and determination and going to class and accountability. When we call, they answer phones and respond back. That's how you have a good football team, how you do it better than they do it. That's how you maximize your skill set. If they're not going to do that, they're not going to be happy here. We want guys that are achievers, like to be out there and like to do things the right way.”

Wilson, senior a defensive end, played in 11 games last year registering eight tackles.

Roderick Henderson, a redshirt freshman, did not play in 2012.
