Southern Miss players report for fall camp

The Southern Miss football team had 105 players report for fall camp today with practice set to begin for the 2013 season.

The Golden Eagles will hold a team meeting this evening and hold their first practice at 8:30 a.m. Friday to start Todd Monken's first fall camp as a head coach.

The main focus of the fall will be finding a quarterback to lead Monken's "Air Raid" system. If he can't find an adequate passer, expect the USM running backs to get plenty of touches this season.

Another interesting dynamic will be the potential of starting five sophomores along the offensive line. Redshirt senior guard Ed Preston is the lone starter returning from last year's offensive line, but he was listed second on the depth chart after the spring.

USM will hold Eagle fanfare at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. Tickets are $5 per person and $20 per family. Children 6 and under are admitted for free. To pre-purchase tickets, call 1-800-844-TICK. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
