Walk-on Cole Weeks is currently at the top of the quarterback depth chart at Southern Miss, first-year coach Todd Monken said Wednesday at Conference USA media day in Irving, Texas.
Monken was asked about his quarterback situation during an interview broadcast live Wednesday morning on the Conference USA web site.
"Right now, Cole Weeks is our starter," Monken said. "He played some last year. They had five quarterbacks that played last year."
Monken also said that Allan Bridgford, a transfer from California, will be in the mix for the starting job this fall.
Monken also mentioned redshirt sophomore Ricky Lloyd, who wasn't able to participate in contact drills in the spring following a season-ending injury last year.
Weeks beat out Redshirt freshman Kyle Sloter, the other quarterback who took snaps in the spring, to be the No. 1 guy this summer.
True freshmen Parker Adamson and Nick Mullens will join the team for fall practice.
Redshirt senior Chris Campbell is not expected to compete for the starting job this season following an injury-plagued 2012 season.
