Federico, Caillet to return as USM assistants; McInnis leaves

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on July 17, 2013

Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry's staff will remain intact for the 2014 season with the exception of the departure of volunteer assistant Todd McInnis.

Berry said Wednesday that both pitching coach Mike Federico and hitting coach Chad Caillet will remain with the program.

Caillet is entering his seventh season as a USM assistant while Federico will be in his fifth. Both men played college baseball at USM.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a 30-27 season that came up just short of a postseason bid when they lost 5-4 to Rice in extra innings in the Conference USA Tournament championship game in Houston. USM has failed to make the NCAA postseason in back-to-back seasons.

McInnis, who is considered one of the top pitchers in USM history, is leaving the program to take an assistant high school coaching job in the Jackson area, Berry said.
