C-USA coaches pick USM to finish 5th in East

Southern Miss is picked by Conference USA coaches to finish in fifth place out of seven squads in the East Division, the league revealed Wednesday.

The prediction mostly falls in line with other preseason publications. Phil Steele's magazine had a more optimistic outlook for the Golden Eagles, picking them to finish tied for third in the East.

The Golden Eagles are entering their first season under new head coach Todd Monken following a disastrous, winless 2012 campaign under former head coach Ellis Johnson.

C-USA coaches picked East Carolina to win the East while Tulsa is the heavy favorite in the West.

Here is how the coaches see C-USA playing out:

1. East Carolina (11) - 95

2. Marshall (2) - 82

3. Middle Tennessee (1) - 70

4. UAB - 54

5. Southern Miss - 40

6. Florida Atlantic - 28

7. FIU - 23

1. Tulsa (14) - 98

2. Rice - 76

3. Louisiana Tech - 72

4. UTEP - 46

5. North Texas - 39

6. Tulane - 31

7. UTSA - 30
