Vancleave hires former Ocean Springs coach to take over girls basketball

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on July 15, 2013

Former Ocean Springs interim boys basketball coach Jeremy Bowen will take over as the girls basketball program at Vancleave High School pending approval from the Jackson County School Board.

Bowen previously served as the girls head coach at Florence High School and also worked as a coach in private schools at University Christian in Flowood and Hillcrest Christian in Jackson.

“I thought Vancleave was always a place I wanted to teach and coach,” Bowen said. “They have a high caliber of students and athletes at Vancleave.”

Bowen has a niece, Bailey Bass, that will be a sophomore on this year's team and his wife, Ashley, is a graduate of Vancleave.

Bowen will replace former Vancleave coach Raina Holmes, who recently stepped down to take a job in administration at Pascagoula High School.

Bowen was originally hired as a boys basketball assistant at Ocean Springs before the 2012-13 season. He was elevated to the top job on an interim basis after previous Ocean Springs boys coach Ronnie Bowen left in August last year to take the same job at Pearl River Central.
