Southern Miss basketball coach hires new staff member

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on July 5, 2013

Southern Miss basketball coach Donnie Tyndall has hired Cincinnati assistant Chris Shumate as the newest member of his staff, Tyndall confirmed today.

Shumate was on the staff at Cincinnati for the last six seasons, serving as the director of student-athlete development since 2009.

At Cincinnati, Shumate had a hand in the team's gameday preparation and played a large role in the team's academic efforts.

He played college basketball at Murray State under Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin.

Shumate replaces Wade O'Connor, who left the USM program to spend more time with his family.
