Pascagoula's Freeman selected as state's top athletic director

Pascagoula School District athletic director Greg Freeman will be honored Friday in Jackson as the state's top athletic director by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

Freeman has been at Pascagoula for eight years after previously serving as a football coach at Harrison Central, George County, the University of North Carolina and Oklahoma State.

He was first told of the honor back in May.

“I was excited,” Freeman said. “It was truly an honor to be selected for the position. There are a number of great athletic directors throughout the state. I've been fortunate to have a lot of different things happen for me, but this is a humbling honor.”

Pascagoula has seen impressive success in recent seasons.

In the 2012-13 school year, the Pascagoula football, baseball, boys basketball and girls basketball teams all reached at least the semifinals in Class 5A. Both the football and baseball teams played for state championships.
