Pascagoula basketball team loses pair of returning players

— Caleb Caston and Matthew Eaton will not be part of the Pascagoula High School basketball team for their senior seasons, coach Ronald Norman said on Tuesday.

Both players have decided to focus on their promising football careers. Caston is a standout defensive end while Eaton is a receiver.

Caston and Eaton were key pieces of the Pascagoula basketball team off the bench last season in its run to the Class 5A semifinals in Jackson. Both played the forward position.

Caston has a football scholarship offer from Arkansas State while Eaton has a football offer from Navy.

Norman said he understood the two players' decisions to stick with football in their senior campaigns.

While Caston and Eaton are giving up basketball, Norman does have one player joining the basketball squad from the football team.

Six-foot-3 Jalen Smith, a receiver for the football team, is practicing with the Pascagoula basketball team this summer.
