Rally planned in support of Biloxi baseball stadium, team

A rally is planned in support of the new Biloxi baseball stadium and minor league team at 3 p.m. Friday across U.S. 90 from the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino.

The event is meant to convey the community's popular interest in bringing a minor league squad to the Coast, countering an effort by a group calling itself the Concerned Citizens/Tax-Payers Coalition that wants a referendum on a $21 million city-issued bond to help build the stadium.

A Facebook page simply called “Baseball Field Rally” promotes the event, saying that former Major League players Barry Lyons and Jim Howarth will be among the speakers.

Overtime Sports president Tim Bennett, who was hired by Biloxi to bring a team to the city, will also speak to those in attendance.
