Moss Point School District Walks for Awareness

Nearly 400 teachers and administrators in the Moss Point School District kicked off their summer by participating in the ninth annual Memorial Heart Walk Friday morning.

Today marks the last day of school before summer break for teachers and American Heart Association Regional Director Kathy Aycock hopes this will help kick start a healthy summer for the participants.

"It brings about awareness that they need to exercise and try to be healthier to live a longer, healthier life," Aycock said.

The walk is held each year to raise money for the American Heart Association and to pay tribute to former staff members who have lost their lives to heart disease.

Participants made the two-mile trek from the Moss Point High School Auditorium down Dantzler Avenue, Arthur Street and back up Bellview Avenue to the high school,

Moss Point School District Communications Director Stephanie Packer said the district surpassed last year's donation total of $936 by bringing in $1,241 from faculty and staff members.
