Scott to run in Rich's place Saturday on Pascagoula relay team

— Pascagoula's Kevin Scott will run in place of Brandon Rich in Saturday's Class 5A meet at Pearl.

Multiple members of the Pascagoula track team wanted to run in place of Brandon Rich on the 4x200-meter team this Saturday at the Class 5A championship meet in Pearl, but the responsibility falls to one of Rich's closest friends on the squad.

Senior Kevin Scott, who was a football standout as a running back this past season, is the newest member of the Pascagoula 4x200 meter team.

Rich, a three-sport star at Pascagoula, died Sunday in a water skiing accident along with sophomore Caleb Sweeten, also a member of the football team.

Scott was already chosen by coach Toben Dubose as an alternate for the 4x200 squad, but he also happens to be a close friend of Rich.

"He came to me and said 'Coach, I want to run it,'" Dubose said. "I told him it's yours to run. Emotions play a big part in this."

Members of the Pascagoula track and field team were set to have a private viewing of Rich late this afternoon before they made the trip to Pearl to compete in the state meet.
