HATTIESBURG — The Southern Miss basketball team advanced to the NIT quarterfinals with a 63-52 victory over Louisiana Tech Monday night.
The Golden Eagles will host BYU (23-11) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a game to be to be televised by ESPNU.
"It's on our home floor, but it's against a very good program," USM coach Donnie Tyndall said.
If USM wins, it will advance to next week's NIT semifinals, which will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Dwayne Davis and Jerrold Brooks both scored 13 points to lead USM while Jonathan Mills and Rashard McGill each had 10 points.
Southern Miss moves to 27-9, tying for the second-most victories in school history.
Tyndall said that Daveon Boardingham tweaked his knee, keeping him to just four minutes in the first half. Tyndall said that Boardingham already had some tendinitis in that knee.
Boardingham ended up playing a total of 14 minutes, scoring six points and grabbing a pair of rebounds.
USM hit just one-of-15 3-pointers, yet more proof that it just keeps finding ways to overcome problems and find ways to win.
