Pascagoula hopes to get 1 of 2 injured pitchers back soon

— Pascagoula pitchers Michael McCarty and Jeremy Knight are both working their way back from injuries, and coach Richie Tillman is hoping to get both back in the coming weeks.

McCarty, who was expected to be the team's ace this season, has a shoulder injury while Knight appears closer to returning from a hamstring injury.

"I think McCarty is going to be out two, three more weeks," Tillman said. "We're going to re-evaluate in another week."

Knight could be soon making an impact on the Panthers' pitching rotation.

"Jeremy will be out another week and a half," Tillman said. "We'll re-evaluate his hamstring. We're still a couple of weeks away, but I'm very proud of the other guys that stepped in to keep us in this race."

McCarty's main use when he returns could be as an important reliever out of the bullpen. Tillman wants to be very careful with McCarty and preserve his future in baseball.

Senior Andrew Crane has done a good job of leading the staff with three wins in his first four starts.

Pascagoula is 6-6 with a 2-1 mark in 7-5A.
