MSU baseball signee Houston has the right stuff

Published: March 13, 2013

Poplarville pitcher Zac Houston stands 6-foot-6, 220 pounds and appears to be the prototypical prospect for professional baseball.

He signed with Mississippi State in November and it's not hard to see why MSU coach John Cohen covets the talented right-hander.

In Poplarville's 10-3 win on Tuesday, Houston limited Vancleave to one run on a pair of hits while striking out 11 and walking just one.

Houston has a fastball that tops out in the low 90's and a curveball that he uses to some effect. He also has a changeup, but he didn't have to use it once Tuesday night.

It'll be interesting to watch in the coming months how his stock improves when it comes to the MLB amateur draft. At 6-foot-6, someone will go after him.
