Brees Pro Bowl snub? I'm not too sure...

Published: December 27, 2012

Blame Robert Griffin III for keeping Drew Brees out of the 2013 Pro Bowl.

The Washington Redskins rookie got the nod Wednesday evening, along with fellow NFC quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay) and Matt Ryan (Atlanta).

Was Brees snubbed? I would go that far. Had he been selected, would Griffin be the victim of a snub? Can't say that either. I could argue both sides...

Even during a roller-coaster season, Brees' passed for more yards (4,781) than Griffin (3,100). But the rookie also ran for another 752 yards.

Brees' 39 touchdowns nearly doubled Griffin's total (20). But Brees' interceptions nearly quadrupled Griffin's five INTs.

Griffin's QB rating is 101.8 entering the regular-season finale. Brees' rating is 94.9.

The Saints ask Brees to do so much; he's accomplished much, not all of it this season. In Griffin, he's been extremely efficient at handling a smaller offensive workload.

So much is expected of Brees. Not nearly as much was expected of Griffin so soon.

Griffin had less-talented receivers to work with, but a much better running game, thanks to fellow rookie Alfred Morris. Brees has multiple targets to trust, although they've all taken turns to struggle this season. And the Saints running game is still an underachieving aspect of the offense.

Washington, winners of its last six games, enters Sunday's regular-season finale one win away from the playoffs. The Saints will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
