Booker puts up 49 as Moss Point gets big win

Moss Point thumped Brewbaker Tech, 80-65, Saturday to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Davidson-Mobile Friday night in the Jackie Laird Christmas Classic at Biloxi High School.

Devin Booker was again the star for the Tigers, pouring in 49 points to take down a Brewbaker team that features a pair of his AAU teammates, Khalil Carter and Steve Rogers.

“He was really on fire,” Moss Point coach Micoe Cotton said. “He was shooting in to double teams. He had like 27 at halftime.”

Moss Point improved to 8-5 with the victory.

Booker received some help from point guard Josh McCarty, who sat out Friday’s 52-48 loss to Davidson. Both McCarty and Alex Payton had 10 points for the Tigers.

“They jumped (Booker), but Josh McCarty played tonight,” Cotton said. “He had 10 points and really helped control the tempo. He hit some big buckets.”

It was a strong defensive performance for the Tigers after Brewbaker Tech scored 114 in an overtime win over Harrison Central on Friday.

“I saw them play yesterday we played them in a 3-2 zone where we could cover all their guards that can shoot,” Cotton said. “We stopped them from penetrating.”
