Tennessee-Martin head football coach Jason Simpson said today that he is interested in speaking with Southern Miss about its job opening.

Simpson said that he had not yet been contacted by USM.

"You're always looking for opportunities that would be great for your family and what a wonderful place Southern Miss would be," Simpson said.

Simpson is a native of Ellisville, which is located 22 miles from Hattiesburg. A graduate of Southern Miss in 1994, Simpson was a baseball standout for the Golden Eagles.

Simpson just completed his seventh season at UT-Martin, leading the Skyhawks to a record of 8-3, which included a win over Conference USA member Memphis.

Simpson, who employs a power spread offense at UT-Martin, previously served as an offensive assistant at Texas State, UT-Chattanooga and Jacksonville State.
