A Bay St. Louis man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Louis Matranga, officials said.

The 50-year-old Matranga, a former paid confidential informant for Hancock County authorities, was killed April 7 in front of a home on Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road in Waveland during a dispute.

Herman Johnson, 57, was arrested today without incident today at his home on Road 139, Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam said.

Johnson's son, who police did not name, called 911 on April 7 to report that Matranga was causing a disturbance in the 9200 block of Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road, Adam said.

Before deputies arrive, the man made a second call to 911 to say his father shot Matranga.

Deputies found Matranga fatally shot twice in the front yard of the residence, he said. The handgun was recovered.

Johnson is in the Hancock County jail under no bond pending an initial court appearance in Hancock County Justice Court.
