State, Ole Miss host first-round NIT games

March 11, 2012

Mississippi State and Ole Miss, denied entrance into the Big Dance, will try for a bite out of the Big Apple instead.

Both SEC teams are high seeds in the National Invitational Touranment that opens this week. The finals will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Mississippi State, 21-11 after a first-round loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament, earned a No. 4 seed and will play host to the University of Massachusetts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville.

Ole Miss, who made it to the semifinals of the conference touranment in New Orleans, picked up a No. 2 seed. The Rebels (20-13) will take on Illinois State at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford.
