PASCAGOULA — Workers on a passing garbage truck reported an early-morning fire that burned a storage and break room area at Pascagoula Ice and Freezer.
Owners of the company say the fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. and burned about 15 percent of the plant before firefighters put it out.
The company is a seafood processing plant that supplies shrimp to groceries and other businesses throughout the country.
The fire is expected to set them back at least two weeks, said co-owner David Gautier. The business employees 40 people.
One shift began at 7 a.m.
"We've been through hurricanes,'" said Gautier. "I've never dealt with a fire, but I guess we'll figure it out."
