Diamondhead receives charter as Mississippi's 111th city

mmnewsom@sunherald.comFebruary 6, 2012

— Diamondhead became Mississippi's 111th city after a ceremony this morning after which it received its charter from Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.

The incorporation ends a five-year legal battle for the area of about 9,500 residents to become a city.

Mayor Chuck Ingraham said city officials will work to bridge differences as the city moves forward. "We will put aside the 'us and them' and with great enthusiasm join together to pull the plow in the same direction."

The city council will have its first meeting at 2 p.m. today at the Diamondhead Country Club.
