GULFPORT -- A 53-year-old man found slumped over in a chair on the beach at U.S. 90 and Lewis Avenue on Thursday died in an apparent suicide, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said.

Officials with the Sand Beach Authority found the Georgia man dead in his chair at 7:41 a.m. Thursday. The coroner said there were no signs of foul play, but an autopsy was performed to confirm the information.

The man’s identity was not released. Sand Beach Authority officials first saw the man walking the beach with his chair around 2 p.m. Wednesday. When they returned the following morning, they found him unresponsive in his chair and reported the information to authorities.
