The man suspected of killing a Catholic priest at a weekend retreat in Waveland on Monday will make his first appearance in court today, officials said.
Jeremy Wayne Manieri, 31, of Carroll Street, Waveland, will go before a judge at the Polk County Courthouse in Bartow, Fla., said Donna Wood, a public information officer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Manieri’s court appearance will take place sometime between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. today, she said.
Manieri is held without bond in Florida, where a SWAT team arrested him without incident Tuesday morning in a hotel room where he, his ex-wife and two young children were preparing to visit Disney World.
He was arrested on a murder warrant signed by a Hancock County judge and is expected to be charged with murder when he is extradited to Waveland. Wood did not know when Manieri will be returned to Waveland.
The Rev. Ed Everitt’s body was found Monday afternoon by a Waveland church secretary sent to check on him when Hammond, La., church officials couldn't reach Everitt, said Waveland Police Chief James Varnell. He had been shot once in the head.
Police believe the motive for the killing was robbery.
