The Southern Professional Hockey League today announced that the Mississippi Surge has been sold to a new ownership group that includes the owner of the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

“Biloxi is a great market with a long-standing history on the ice and my decision to purchase the Mississippi Surge was done so hockey will continue for years to come,” said Tim Kerr, who heads the new ownership group. “Not only is it important to the fans and communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the Surge to succeed, but it also benefits the other teams along the I-10 corridor like Pensacola and Louisiana and I look forward to the challenge.

SPHL president Jim Combs is excited about the new ownership as well.

“Tim’s involvement with the Surge will help provide stability and leadership throughout the organization,” he said. “The Mississippi Gulf Coast market is very important to the future of the SPHL and I’m confident the new ownership group will keep the Surge moving in the right direction, both on and off the ice.
