DMR extends shrimping season in some state waters

December 29, 2010

— Shrimping season in Mississppi waters has been extended through Jan. 14, the Department of Marine Resources announced today.

The area that will remain open extends from the territorial waters north of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Shrimping season for that area will close at 12:01 a.m. Jan. 15. Mississippi waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway will remain open through April 2011.

The DMR said sampling will continue and if it is found that juvenile shrimp are moving into the area in large numbers, the season may close sooner.

All other Mississippi waters will remain closed to shrimping.
