Mayor’s veto overridden; church will be razed

Published: November 17, 2010

— The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday voted 4-1 to allow the Biloxi Diocese to proceed with demolition of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Alderman Robin Rafferty, who recused himself in an earlier vote on the issue, voted against the other four members of the board.

The vote overrides a veto last week by Mayor Chipper McDermott.

The city’s code office can now issue a demolition permit to the diocese, Alderwoman-at-large Renee Brooks said.
