The flag has been raised at the Armed Forces Retirement Home and the first group of veterans has arrived to take up residence since Hurricane Katrina destroyed the home in 2005.

Residents were evacuated to the other AFRH in Washington, D.C.

About 150 veterans are expected to move in today at the 580-room residence facility.

The campus cost about $185 million to rebuild and finishing touches were added over the weekend in anticipation of the veterans’ return to the Coast.
